My top 5 tips for when you have a cold.
My husband and I have both caught the sniffles already this year and I thought I'd share what I find to be helpful little home remedies when the flu bug starts biting.
Tea, Tea, and More Tea
I am huge believer in the healing power of tea. I myself own over 75 different kinds of tea and there are plenty out there tailor made for colds. Sleepy Time Sinus, Sleepy Time Throat Soother, Green Tea, Lemon Zinger, Etc., Etc., Etc. If you like your tea a little sweet try adding honey instead of sugar. It's better for you and honey is very good at coating and soothing your sore throat!
Stay Warm
It's really important to keep yourself warm while your sick. Pile on your blankets, wear a sweater, and make sure to wear a coat when you go outside. Especially important is to wear socks or slippers on your feet around the house and if it is cold enough outside put on gloves and a hat.
Eat Well
Eating light small meals more often will help you digest easier which is easier on your body. It's even better if you eat healthy. It's easier for your body to digest things like soup and toast than to digest a large fatty meal and it allows your body to focus more on fighting your cold rather than trying to process that double cheeseburger.
Kill Those Germs!
Hand washing is probably the most important thing when you are sick! Keep hand sanitizer around when soap and water aren't an option but try not to rely on it entirely. Also it definitely won't hurt to sanitize things like doorknobs, keyboards, gaming controllers, sink and toilet handles, and anything else that multiple people touch on a daily basis.
Blow Your Nose
Blow your nose often to get rid of those germs instead of sniffling and sucking them back into your body. It will take longer to get rid of the germs and can cause upset stomach. Plus it's going to be a relief to the people around you that they don't have to hear you sucking snot back into your nose! Always remember to wash your hands every time you blow your nose and dispose of your tissues instead of letting them lie around spreading more germs.
(bonus tip: please always cover your mouth when you sneeze!)
