October In Review

Not Your Ordinary Favorites

I Started October with a homemade breakfast from my husband. My Hubby spent two weeks in Ireland last year and frequently likes to try and remake much of the food he enjoyed there. Here is the traditional Irish breakfast using the ingredients readily available to us in the U.S.

Hubby and I have a tradition of watching Halloween movies together every year starting with Sleepy Hollow and adding in a few more. This year we spent the time the movies were on painting in our studio. Hubby like to collect board games and figurines to hand paint, something I help him with, in addition to my original paintings.

I started a fun new endeavor this month hand making wreaths! I spent all of October researching and ordering supplies. I plan on spending this winter working on a ton of these which are now for sale on my Etsy! It was a huge hassle trying to find and match up supplies and colors online for a good price since there aren't any shops here and I had some hassles with UPS trying to deliver my flowers. After a 3 day attempt and having to call and complain to them I finally got my order.

This months Birchbox theme was Positive Force. It was hit and miss for me and you can read my full review here.

This month I got one painting finished and posted for sale. October is my favorite month and I know it's a lot of other peoples favorite as well. This one took me four hours not including drying time and is acrylic on a canvas sheet. It's available as is at a reduced rate or in a frame full price.

The weather certainly took a turn this month prompting a need to buy a space heater. We have baseboard electric heaters in our town home which is something I'd never really experienced before. You control each room individually and you can't have any furniture, drapes, or wires near it which means having to move our dining table away from the wall. The couch on the other hand doesn't have any more room to be moved so our beloved new fireplace heater was the solution!

Every grocery trip I try and get healthier options than the time before. This visit I decided to indulge in some new pressed juices by Bolthouse before the weather gets too cold for it.I often don't feel well because of chronic illness but healthy options, especially drink options, are always helpful.

We have 3 huge trees in our yard and the leaves really came down this month. I was finally able to break out my fall boots and comfy sweaters. We spent our spare time eating out, doing a little shopping, and seeing Crimson Peak in theaters. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie although I did have a panic attack before going inside. On the plus side it was my first one in quite awhile and forcing myself to go to the movie anyway has helped me work through some of my anxiety about going out. The movie was a visually stunning gothic horror romance and I can't wait to get it on Blu-Ray!

Hubby had a potluck at work this month and one of his favorite hobbies is cooking. He loves to impress people and try out new recipes and these apple roses were absolutely perfect. I helped a bit with these delicious treats and they were a huge hit, there were no leftovers!

October 31st, Halloween, is normally my favorite day of the year. The older I've gotten however the more disappointing it seems to get. I was working on Halloween last year which was our first one in this state so I was really looking forward to staying home and passing out candy this year. We were both super busy this month so we carved pumpkins on Halloween, something we normally do earlier in the month and we didn't end up with a single trick or treater. I'm pretty sure most parents feel safer taking their children to group or city run events rather than let them wander the neighborhood like when we were younger. I understand but I miss getting to see all the little ones in costume.

October was a rough but overall enjoyable month for us. We had some ups and downs like any normal couple. We saw some movies, bought some things, and got some bad news. I dropped a clock on my foot and couldn't walk on it for 3 days but between all the crafts and yummy food it was a great month!
