October's Birchbox 2015 Review
This months theme was:
Positive Force
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month this box was a plethora of pink! The marbling of the box was beautiful but overall not my favorite design.
Borghese Fango Purificante Clay Cleanser - retail $30.00
This facial cleanser looks, feels, and smells like shampoo. I didn't have high hopes for this initially but I was pleasantly surprised. This product lathered nicely and left my face feeling fresh and clean. I have extremely oily skin so a lot of times my face still feels dingy even after a wash but not with this. The smell wasn't ideal for a cleanser but it doesn't stick around long after you've rinsed the product off.
Harvey Prince Yogini Perfume - retail $55.00
This is a nice perfume if a little masculine. For a product named after a calming exercise I expected more of a fresh light scent, something soothing and calming. This just didn't stack up and isn't for me.
Number 4 Texture Styling Creme - retail $32.00
I don't need a styling cream and after this I still don't the texture and smell are just fine but it left my hair looking greasy and unwashed. I probably could have gotten away with streaking some grease in my hair for all this did. The packaging is adorable, however, that doesn't make it worth purchasing.
Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer - retail $36.00
I was so excited to finally try this primer! I am a huge fan of Smashbox and this was the first thing I broke out after receiving my box. Unfortunately I do believe this product is over hyped. I didn't find it to work any better or worse than my usual primer. Don't get me wrong this is a great product and works better than a drugstore primer but as far as products in the same price tier it's about the same as others I've tried.
Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara - retail $23.00
I wasn't supposed to get this mascara actually. When it came time for my monthly choice I chose a Too Faced mascara but that's not what I got. I emailed Birchbox immediately and they were wonderful enough to send me the correct mascara but I still have this one to review! For starters this mascara seems to have a great formula and it did make my lashes look long but it also gave me crazy spider leg lashes. I think The main problem with it is the brush. It has a lot of bristles all very close together that, rather than separating my lashes, just sort of globbed them together. As I said I do like the formula so I think I'll try it with a different brush.
Overall this box only gets a 3 star rating from me. There were just a lot of let downs and products I won't use. My favorite item was probably the Borghese Clay Cleanser. You can join Birchbox yourself at any time but join before November 9th to receive $10 bonus points to spend in the shop!
