July in Review and Life Update

Image
Pregnancy has been a long and exhausting road so far and I've had to put a lot of things on the back burner for my own health and state of mind. This blog has definitely fallen to the wayside and I know that will be a continuing trend after baby's arrival Some how I've been both seemingly doing nothing and constantly busy at the same time. So far our summer has been pretty uneventful but July has been a particularly difficult and busy month for us. We began July with an epic "100 year flood". Our entire town was underwater in the span of 9 hours. We were lucky enough to live uphill from the worst of it and our home was spared  but many were not. We were without power for a week and without usable water for 3 weeks. My husbands job was damaged and he was unemployed for 3 full weeks before the building was repaired enough for him to return. It started with flood warnings on our phones and then the pictures started to pop up on facebook; people on top of their h...

Girl or Boy?

Image
20 week gender reveal! On Monday Hubby and I finally had our big ultrasound appointment. The appointment went extremely well and we learned that baby is not only extremely healthy but 13 oz and in the 96th percentile for the development stage they are at. All of the organs, spine, and head looked perfect and the little heartbeat was at 148. The last month leading up to our appointment was quite eventful and seemed to drag on waiting to find out weather we were having a little boy or girl.  Around 18 weeks I finally started to feel definitive movement from little one every morning when I ate and more and more throughout the day the last two weeks. Now I feel baby every few hours and on the 28th they even had tiny little hiccups! As far as I myself go, the nausea is mostly gone and my biggest symptom right now is back pain. I was diagnosed with scoliosis in middle school and have struggled with mild back pain most of my life. In the last few weeks that pain has t...

Why I Canceled Birchbox

Image
In other news I have recently decided to cancel my Birchbox subscription after only 5 months. The whole reason I joined Birchbox in the first place was to try makeup. At first I got at least one if not a few makeup items each box with some skin and hair care products mixed in. I believe this was mostly to get me to stay because by the end of the 5 months I was no longer receiving any makeup items. The items I was receiving were not relevant to me. The profile customization seems to actually not play any part in what you receive after all. They ask you to specify your hair color (brown) and type (oily) and ask the same for your skin type (combination, acne). I, however, on multiple occasions received products for aging skin or dry skin most of which were unusable on my part and a few of the ones I did try ended up breaking me out. The same went for hair care. I received shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair and curly hair even though I have neither. I did try changing my p...

Update and Big News!

Image
Hello everyone! You may have noticed a sudden absence from this blog on my part recently. This is because I have huge news! We're having a baby! That's right I'm expecting and having just entered my second trimester I thought it was a good time to finally update everyone on my progress. We told all of the important people right away and recently made a public announcement after my 12 week checkup. I've been getting a lot of questions so I thought I'd go over a few of them, answer the ones I'm comfortable with, and reflect on my first trimester. We found out I was pregnant on January 7th with two at home pregnancy tests. We then confirmed the pregnancy with an ultrasound at the doctors later in the week. It was at that point that we started to tell immediate family about the news. Week 6:  We had our doctors appointment to confirm the pregnancy,  Nausea set in, Craving Sprite and cucumbers. Week 7: Nausea continually ...

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Mini Creamy Lip Stain Trio Review

Image
I ordered the Cynthia Rowley Beauty Mini Trio from Birchbox as an add on to try. I was very curious to find out exactly what a creamy lip stain would be like. The small tubes are the perfect size for me since I am a lip product hoarder and never can seem to finish a tube of anything. I was initially very impressed with the colors in package. Dahlia The first color is in the shade Dahlia. In package it is a very vibrant eggplant purple and I was very excited to see that translated on my lips however I was extremely underwhelmed after application. The color was streaky and patchy and way more red than I expected. It was slightly improved with a 2nd coat but that left a very thick sticky feeling to the lips. Heartthrob  The second color is in the shade Heartthrob and is a very fiery orange red. On the lips it maintains it's orange-red color but is see through like a gloss. I liked this one much better but the color was still not as vibrant as I would have liked. This one ...

Lush Intergalactic Review and Video

Image
For Christmas this year my wonderful husband got me 4 different Lush bath bombs, all of which I intend to review. The first I used, however, was Intergalactic. I have never used anything by Lush before so this is a first time user review. Retails for $7.50. From the website:  Ever wonder what bathing in deep space would be like? Invite the cosmos into your tub with this interstellar bomb. An awesome mix of refreshing peppermint and neon color will send your mood rocketing, while popping candy takes you on a trip around the Milky Way. Before you leap too far, rogue layers of vetivert and cedarwood take hold, evoking the warmth of human contact far from home and a hint of ‘80s aftershave. Personally I don't feel like I smelled much peppermint as the cedarwood and aftershave scents are the most prominent in this bomb. The smell is rather masculine for my taste but nice none the less. The colors were absolutely beautiful and it was incredibly entertaining to watch in the t...

Influenster's Jingle VoxBox Review

Image
I received the 2015 Jingle VoBox on Christmas Eve this year. It had a lot of great items included in it but first let me tell you a little bit about Influenster. I have been an Influenster member for 2 years and in the time I have recieved 3 VoxBox's. The general purpose for reviewing products. You can review any product even if they didn't send it to you and it can improve your score. Once you've joined (cost: free!) all you have to do is connect all of your social media accounts. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Etc, Etc. The more you connect, the higher your impact, the higher your score, the more you qualify. Influenster is pretty much always sending out boxes, there definitely seems to be more than one a month at least, but you have to qualify for each box. Each box has some kind of theme and every time they are getting ready to send one out they choose a large number of people they think would benefit the most from the box. They have ones for weddings, new moms, dog...

Loves and Letdowns 2015

Image
I have collected some of my favorite beauty products from this year and some of not so favorites to bring you my Top 10 Loves and Letdowns of 2015. I only included products I have actually received and tried within the last year. There were a lot more that could have been included in each category but they either were purchased/received in 2014 or didn't quite make my top 10. Lets start with my letdowns just to get them out of the way. I already know I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this list. In no particular order: Benefit POREfressional face primer retail: $31.  I really don't have any issues with this primer. It's soft, nice, and does exactly what it says it will. It made this list, however, because I think it's over hyped. When compared to other primers of the same teir it's nothing special. I get the exact same results with pretty much any primer around the same price. Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush retail: $21.  I don't know if it...
